NTP : Time synchronization2026/04/09 |
To change the time synchronization settings, do the following. By default, the time synchronization service is enabled and configured to synchronize with the default Debian NTP server. Therefore, in many cases, the default settings are fine, but for example, if the Proxmox server is located within a closed local network and does not have an internet connection, you will need to change the NTP server used for time synchronization. Additionally, if you want the Proxmox server itself to act as an NTP server and accept time synchronization requests from other computers on the local network, you will need to change the settings. |
| [1] | Log in to the Proxmox VE management console as an administrator user, and select your hostname in the left pane, and then select [System] in the right pane, you will see that the NTP service [Chrony] for time synchronization is running. |
| [2] | To change the settings, select [Shell] and make the changes using command-line operations. |
| [3] | If you want to change the NTP server used for time synchronization, follow the same procedure with here and modify the line that starts with [pool]. |
| [4] | If you want the Proxmox server itself to act as an NTP server and accept time synchronization requests from other computers on your local network, add the [allow] line to the end. |
| [5] | After making changes to the settings, restart the service and check the synchronization status. |
